Skip Peru Medical Volunteering
SKIP Peru is a UK and US registered charity working with around 400 children and their families living in El Porvenir and Alto Trujillo, located on the outskirts of the city of Trujillo, Peru. Around 200,000 people live in these impoverished areas, thousands living in absolute poverty and with limited access to basic services like running water and electricity.
Their diverse team is comprised of teachers, social workers, psychologists, economic development workers and a range of other volunteers. As well as providing direct educational support to children. The team also work to educate and empower parents so they are able to take control of their lives and improve their own living circumstances. Through their Economic Development Team, they offer micro finance loans and group business training.
Health Campaign
Health services in this area are extremely limited and the costs of medication are prohibitive to families and therefore illness often goes untreated. Medical volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside local medical staff in completing medical assessments for families with children. In addition to diagnostic work, they will be prescribing appropriate medication and treating patients.
On occasion SKIP run specific issue campaigns and give workshops for mothers regarding health issues, such as healthy eating, or breast cancer awareness. |
